The CORD’S Solutions Groups
The CORD’s Solution Groups are forums where proactive and energetic community members come together, where they see a need for raising awareness to promote causes or issues they feel strongly about. In the Solutions Groups, individuals search for answers together and share solutions equally concerning matters of diversity, immigration and community.
At this early stage in its development, CORD has created the down listed groups according to several consultations. These groups may evolve as we work together. Solutions Group members may come from any background, including but not limited to: professional associations, government departments, unions, post-secondary institutions, and immigration and community service agencies.
The purpose of the Solutions Groups is to improve our quality of life by building relationships and devising practical ways to
Allow people to come together, share ideas and experiences
Identify current issues, suggest how to overcome barriers and challenges and develop useful solutions
Identify and celebrate successes
Seek out opportunities, evaluate and make recommendations (Example: Find out what is being done, who is doing it, what needs to be done, and who can do it)
Develop strategies to improve (empowering) relationships between immigrants and long-term residents
Find innovative ways to increase public awareness.

Appreciative Approach is the process used throughout these meetings. AI is a particular way of asking questions and envisioning the future that fosters positive relationships and builds on the basic goodness in a person, a situation or an organization. In so doing, it enhances a system’s capacity for change. The basic idea of AI is to be positive and focus on what works, rather than trying to fix what does not.
This approach encourages participants to remain positive, dream about what is possible and make it happen. It enhances group cohesion and fosters a respectful environment. For more information about this approach, visit: appreciativeinquiry.case.edu
At this point in the development of CORD, our understanding is that the Solutions Groups will have an open membership, will meet regularly and have a group leader. These groups will be supported by the CORD Secretariat and report to the CORD Governance Board.
We are committed to creating an open space where all who contribute have a voice, have the time and space to be heard. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate fully in the Solutions Groups meetings. We respect, appreciate and are excited about what you have to offer – be it a little or a lot. You do not need to be an expert to attend these meetings – all contributions are welcome!
